==================================================
Psychophonetics is a modality based on Methodical Empathy, a new form of holistic counselling, coaching and psychotherapy. It is a unique method of enhancing self-awareness and of renewing the whole human being – body, life energy, soul, and spirit.
Purpose
When we discover a difficulty in our lives, we are often aware that there is some puzzling underlying pattern that we want to understand. How did I get into this situation? How can I change my situation? How can I find my next step? I feel stuck!
See You Tube South African TV from 2009 – overview of Psychophonetics
The Conversation Counselling phase of Psychophonetics brings into focus the important issues that underlie the outer circumstances and lead to new knowledge about them as well as a to a Wish. Your Wish is in itself a clarifying step in what choices you can make.
Your Wish is also the basis for the full Psychophonetics process of what is called the Action Phase. This consists of choosing a characteristic moment from recent life, which exemplifies the pattern in question. This moment is explored through sensing its body memory and re-activating the original experience in a safe environment. The script underlying the pattern in question emerges from your direct observation. It will have its own particular structure, its various internal characters and its dynamics.
Through reading your script and identifying the characters in your play, you can create a new script, one that fulfils your ‘Wish’.
What has been achieved during the ‘rehearsal’, you can practise independently in chosen moments before and after the crucial interactions of the daily life ‘performance’. Such daily practice of a new and freely chosen pattern of response can bring about a deep and lasting shift, from which you can make new choices.
Click here for a short interview given by Yehuda Tagar, the creator of Psychophonetics, in 2009.
Based on a re-creation of Rudolf Steiner’s Psychosophy, it encourages the individual human spirit to take charge and to uplift inner and outer life.
- It holds the integrity of the individual as paramount
- It leaves you in charge of your own transformation
- It affirms the spiritual dimension of the human being
- It focuses on your present experience with no analysis or interpretation
- It awakens you to your own reality, in which you are your own mentor and guide
- It uses body awareness, movement, gesture, visualisation and the sounds of human speech, to explore one’s experience, leading to lasting self-empowerment and resourcefulness
==================================================
Origins of Psychophonetics
Yehuda Tagar formed and articulated the path of exploring human experience which he originally called Phylophonetics, before it became a method of psychotherapy and healing which he called Psychophonetics.
The story of its development is interwoven with his biography:
“Poetry was an act of bridging, breathing, broadening for me from the age of 14. The creation of Phylophonetics became an extension of my poetry, a path of encouraging people to name their own reality, to do their poetic deed”.
Psychophonetics is a path of a awakening to the inner life through the outer life and to the outer life through the inner. As such, it is an echo of Rudolf Steiner’s definition of Anthroposophy: “a path of knowing, leading the spiritual within the human being to the spiritual in the world”.
Psychophonetics is one expression of Anthroposophy (see “Anthroposophy” below)
Yehuda writes:
“Three streams of my personal, spiritual and artistic striving lead me to the formation of Psychophonetics.
- My desire to find a practical way of moving towards the fulfilment of the 7 conditions of spiritual development set out by Rudolf Steiner in his seminal work ‘Knowledge of the Higher Worlds and its attainment’.
- My practical search for an approach to drama as a part of human awakening.
I encountered this in my late 20s at Emerson College, Sussex, England but the vision was not unfolding within Steiner circles and, as a frustrated by creative young man, I had to undergo my own journey. When I found his course “Speech and Drama” (September 1924), it was clear to me that what he had put forward 60 years before had not yet started and this journey led me to this discovery of Psychophonetics. - I was recovering from a severe personal crisis in my late 20s and, having explored humanistic, existential and transpersonal approaches to human development in my youth, I could not find an established path of psychology, psychotherapy and counselling based on Steiner’s worldview. In Steiner’s lectures on “Psychosophy” (November 1910), as well as in his critical writing about Psychoanalysis, I found a starting point for the development of such a path, the most comprehensive, insightful and practical approach to the exploration of the human soul that I had come across by then.
My explorations took place while I explored Steiner’s approach to the development of the actor. Drama became, for me, the laboratory for a practical exploration of Psychosophy, which formed the conceptual framework and the language for my research. The attempt to integrate my soul life as an expression of my spiritual being, he enthused my research, constantly grounding it and giving it a human reality.
These three streams converged into the formation of Psychophonetics as a path of exploring human experience, self-knowledge and creativity towards transformation, healing and growth”.
==================================================

Professional references
“Yehuda Tagar has created a powerful and profound new psychotherapeutic approach based on the relationship between sound, gesture and emotion through which trauma and painful memories can be brought gently to consciousness for healing. He has shown us that our human sounds can give immediate access to our deepest truths and when combined with a creative and empowering psychotherapeutic relationship, individuals can quickly heal the barriers to their own joy and fulfilled, purposeful living. I am proud to be supporting Yehuda in the introduction of Psychophonetics to the UK which will clearly become a major new therapeutic discipline.”

“Psychophonetics Counselling has become an essential part of my Anthroposophically integrated holistic general practice. For many years it was the missing link in my medical work, since I lacked a formal training in holistic counselling which was compatible with my Anthroposophically based medical work. This profound therapeutic creation by Yehuda seems to me the natural and rational development of Rudolf Steiner’s Psychosophy and extends Anthroposophical Medicine into new domains. It has added enormous value to my personal and professional life.”

“Psychophonetics appreciates the complexities of the human form. It conceives of humans as multi-modal and it respects people as ecological beings. It is an approach which offers possibilities to healers working in Africa as it recalls the fullness of what living could be.”
Professor Stan Lifschitz
Head of Clinical Psychology Masters Programme, University of South Africa
“Yehuda’s approach has potentially, enormous benefits for ordinary people in our country, who welcome short but intensive treatment to help them deal with the problems and traumas of everyday life, in situations of poverty and stress.”
Professor David Cooper
Head of Department of Sociology, University of Cape Town
“I have had full opportunity to observe the arrival in South Africa of a number of new modalities of healing and therapy and of their development into fully acknowledged professions. In the light of my experience, my view of Psychophonetics, which has been developed by Mr Tagar, is that it offers a valuable contribution to the range of healing modalities available to the South African public. “

What is Psychosophy?
What we have been and what we might become, converge in the present life of the soul. We live at the threshold between transforming past experience into raw material for future potential and staying imprisoned within given limitations. This threshold may be seen as the growing point for the evolution of human consciousness.
At the dawn of modern psychology, Rudolf Steiner created Psychosophy as the foundation for a future spiritual psychology, but it has remained relatively unknown for 100 years. (Lectures given in Berlin, November 1st – 4th, 1910). It could have well been named a ‘Psychology of Freedom’.
In what follows, the indications from these lectures are linked to the foundations of Psychophonetics.
Click here for an excerpt from a lecture by Yehuda Tagar (the creator of Psychophonetics) about Psychosophy, which is the spiritual foundation for the practice of Psychophonetics.

A Psychology of Freedom:
What we have been and what we might be both converge at the present life of the human soul. There we live at the threshold between transforming past experience into the raw material for future potential, and staying imprisoned in our given limitations. Seen from Anthroposophical perspective, that threshold is the growing point for the evolution of human consciousness, the next step in creation.
A psychology, psychotherapy and coaching for personal development of this kind can be regarded as ‘a Psychology of Freedom.
Psychosophy:
Yet soul transformation can only take place consciously. Researched from a unique perspective of Steiner’s spiritual scientific faculties, a foundation for a future spiritual psychology was created, at the dawn of modern psychology. He called it Psychosophy in 1910. Close to a century passed prior to conditions being ready for this gift to modern psychology to bear fruit. Psychosophy provides a most practical model, road map, language and laboratory for a comprehensive study and a practical transformation of the domain of human experience based on a spiritual conception of humanity, evolution and the Earth.
Meditation:
Working with the essence of Steiner’s 1906 ‘Main Exercise’ through Applied Psychosophy’s Methodical Empathy, maintains his intensely poetic and inwardly charged meditation, which expresses Anthroposophy as primarily an impulse of love and the universe as a very personal place.

BECOME
BECOME – BRITISH COLLEGE OF METHODICAL EMPATHY
Empathy is in universal demand. It is rapidly becoming the word for sane, constructive and sustainable human communication and relationship on all levels. The future of human civilisation depends on developing empathy quickly enough with other people, other cultures, to the environment, to nature, and to planet Earth.
Empathy is a new word for a new phenomena: the ability to understand human beings from their own point of view. It sounds simple and it is assumed that empathy has always been around. But it is completely new. Invented in 1909 and applied professionally for the first time in 1951. We all believe that we have it and expect empathy from people that matter to us, however it is not taught consciously. Empathy is in high demand and short supply in most areas.
Professional courses, short courses and public presentations in Methodical Empathy are applied in different fields
==================================================
Methodical Empathy
Methodical Empathy
Methodical Empathy is the educational process for the methodical cultivation of empathy as a reliable personal and professional skill for sustainable human relationships and communication, and for the perception, understanding and informed treatment of people. It grows alongside a growing capacity of self – awareness, self – empathy and self – care.
Methodical Empathy teaches people how to build the 5 stages of empathy skills through practical exercises related to personal life and then to apply them to professional practice where relevant. This integrates the capacity of self-care and the care for others into one sustainable process.
- Projective Empathy – sometimes called love, care, compassion, sympathy, antipathy, it is the first stage of empathy.
- Reflective Empathy – objective reflection on a subject, a human being.
- Self-Empathy – Empathy’s turning point, observing one’s own experience and reality with perspective.
- Perceptive Empathy – the first stage of integrating personal self care with the simultaneous care of others into one process.
- Conceptive Empathy – Empathy with the unborn potential of the other.
These five levels build a Theory of Relativity of Human Reality
Observing one’s own reality
Creates the organ of perception
For the perception of the reality of others
==================================================
British College of Methodical Empathy
Psychophonetics is a modality based on Methodical Empathy developed over twenty five years. The British College of Methodical Empathy celebrates the potential in each person to become their own leader, the name reflects this reality, as empathy can be taught – BECOME.

Foundation Year fees are £3,500 /year .
Second and third year fees are £4,000 /year
Fourth year fees are £4,500 / year
While we recommend prospective students to seek sponsorship/loans from private and commercial sources, we do consider applications for a 25% discount from partners of a current student, those who are already students on some other training and in certain other life circumstances.
Our policy is to give priority in any discount to second, third and fourth year students who will have committed to the training, rather than to the first year, which focuses more on personal development, self-mastery and leadership skills.
We also consider any discount to be in the nature of a gift and hope that, should a student’s personal circumstances change, they will be able to gift the money back, so that it may support future students in their turn.
We make very endeavour to allow this course to be available to all.
We welcome individual payment for the first two stand alone modules, attendance on the second module confirms enrolment for the year.

Feedback from students
Medical Professional
“Psychophonetics in Medical Practice –Medical Psychophonetics After 20 years in general medical practice, I realized that the one thing my holistic approach lacked was the option of skillfully using a psychotherapeutic intervention. I discovered that the psychophonetic counselling modality fitted perfectly into my medical practice.
Patients consult me for a wide range of physical and psycho-emotional problems. In the course of the interview, attention is invariably drawn to psychosocial factors which may be connected with the clinical problem. Using simple preparatory psychophonetic techniques, the patient may be invited to experience his or her physical symptoms on a deeper level. For instance, if the complaint is abdominal pain, the patient is asked to focus on the bodily sensation of pain and then to gesture with the hands and then the whole body the character of the pain. The patient then steps away from the gesture and observes imaginatively the body form that was created by the gesture. This imaginative picture frequently unveils for the patient new and sometimes overwhelming insights into the nature of the illness which he will wish to explore in a follow up psychophonetic session.
Psychophonetics methodology provides a wide range of techniques which enables the practitioner to deepen the diagnostic and therapeutic picture. The specific process that emerges during each session through the dynamic interaction between client and counselor will determine which methodological utilities are used. ”

“Yehuda has developed an enlightened form of psychotherapy/counselling called Psychophonetics – it was created by him, in the 1980s, and is a holistic approach based on Rudolph Steiner’s Anthroposophy and Psychosophy – it is now taught all over the world.
With long unfamiliar names, it may all sound very inaccessible but simply put it is cutting edge psycho-development and coaching for self-mastery and leadership, in which the human being is seen as a living body, soul and spirit.
Added to which, it is a highly effective short-term intervention for long-term self-care and self-development. Consider it the ‘Psychology of Freedom’.
Two years on, I have realised what a profound impact Psychophonetics has had on my life, both personally and professionally, and feel committed to share what I have learnt with others. I have come across many influential teachers in my time, but none that have impressed me more than Yehuda – both with his integrity and fidelity to fundamental truths. I feel immensely grateful for what he has taught me and would like as many people to benefit his insights as possible – I cannot recommend his work highly enough.”

“For me, feeling that I was running on empty led me to do an introductory Psychosophy course and then a 10 day Psychophonetics workshop. These helped me begin to re-connect with myself, face my ‘demons’ … and find sources of inspiration and energy beyond hope.”
Martin Large Director of Hawthorn Press
Individual
“Coming across Psychophonetics was a revelation, it took just a taster day for me to say this is what I need, even though the whole gesturing feelings felt really scary. I have found the course very rewarding and the friendships I have made though it have given me a great deal. It has been a fast track to getting to know myself and human nature much more profoundly”
Parent
“My family appreciate that I have done this course, they say I am much easier to get on with and listen to them better than before. I thought I might just do the first year of the course for my own development but found when the time of choice arrived that I wanted more and that it was showing that it could be useful for my work. I am glad I made the choice because I find the challenge of counselling very rewarding”

Benefits of Psychophonetics Therapy
When we discover a difficulty in our lives, we are often aware that there is some puzzling underlying pattern that we want to understand. How did I get into this situation? How can I change my situation? How can I find my next step? I feel stuck!
==================================================
Psychophonetics Therapy – What to expect
Complete confidentiality. The supervision of a student will be done without reference to your name, address or life situation. Unlike normal psychotherapy, the psychophonetics process does not require analysis or interpretation, so any record of the session will contain no identifying personal details whatsoever.
The practitioner will ask you to share whatever you wish to say about the issue you have come with, listening deeply and empathically, while reflecting to you what they have understood. This alone can be an immensely strengthening and supportive experience. Through their reflections, the practitioner will invite you to make a Wish about your situation. This sounds very simple, but it is a clarifying and empowering step.
If you have chosen a fully qualified practitioner (or a student under supervision), the Action Phase follows. You will be asked to choose an example from recent life and, through that, embark on a journey of discovery, where gestures and sounds become a language.
New understanding will unfold for you as you follow the process and the role of the practitioner is to accompany you, as a team member with experience, on your chosen journey. There will be no analysis or interpretation of the scenes that you will discover and you alone will choose how you understand them.
At the end of the process which, with the Conversation phase, can last up to 90 minutes, you will leave with some practical and effective tools to take into your life situation, with which you can practice and strengthen what you have learned.

This may be done by phone or e-mail as arranged between you and your counsellor. However, you are not required to do this.

This may be done by phone, e-mail or post as arranged between you. However, you are not obliged to do this.
A fully qualified (Level 3) Psychophonetics practitioner who has graduated from the training offers the entire Psychophonetics process and will charge in the range of £40 to £75 depending on the length of the session (up to 1.5 hours).

Feedback from clients
“I was amazed at the immediacy and clarity of the images that emerge and the supportive way one is guided through the process to conclusion”
“As a trained counsellor myself, I was very impressed by the way I was gently and intuitively supported through a revelatory process – for that I thank you with all my heart”
“I am using the tools you gave me on a daily basis and so far I feel that your strength I never knew existed”
“It was a very positive – albeit painful – experience for me. The financial predicament I presented at the session remains unresolved and I still feel anxious about our future. However I am tackling it now, instead of dissolving into tears and being overwhelmed by the mountain I have to climb”.

Topics for seminars and courses can be tailor-made, but general themes are:
- Humanising the place of work
- The 7 Conditions for sustainable human development:-
> Team health
> Team empathy
> ‘Clearing the Air’
> Clear boundaries and identity
> Facing avoidances
> Appreciating people
> Upgrading consistency, reliability and clarity of contracts - Basic communication and listening Skills
- Upgrading the ‘meeting culture’
- Human ‘safety contracts’
- The inner dimension of leadership
- Transforming crisis into opportunity
- Counselling ‘on the run’
Training Format
The method of transformation used is called Psychophonetics which draws on the deepest sources of emotional intelligence.
Psychophonetics involves the use of movement, gesture, visualisation and sound. Through these, the rationale of these seven conditions can be directly experienced and deepened. Individuals will be empowered to work on themselves and will come away from the sessions with techniques to support and strengthen themselves.
The aim of the training is to lead individuals to become more independent directors of their own lives, more responsible for their work within the organization and with improved communication skills.
We offer 8 or 10 training days. The preferred format is in groups of 2 days at a time with 6 –8 weeks in between.

Feedback from clients
Testimonials for Yehuda Tagar: Personal & Professional Development; Leadership and Management Skills; Stress Management; Humanising the Workplace & “Decision Making” training activities.
1. Humanising the workplace
Attendance of cca 12 directors, managers and leaders of our company (IT development…)
The workshop was a two day event requested by the company top management. The goal was to open discussions on topics such as personal development; leadership and humanizing the workplace.
Through the workshop we achieved much more than the planned themes. People opened up and freely discussed deep topics such as company leadership, direction and potential. Some talked about these issues for the first time and brought new ideas and points to the table. All were willing to look at the company from a new point of view and reassess their own place within the group. Each individual saw the potential of the company through its workers. The directors left the workshop with renewed drive to guide the company and also more than willing to help others to realize their leadership potential. Immediately after the workshop an action group was formed that would drive the changes and make sure workers requests for company development are analyzed and implemented. The idea of humanizing the workplace and making a better company has now been introduced to all employees.
The decision to hold this workshop proved to be absolutely correct, a great success and provided a restart for the company. We plan to continue this in the coming months.
2. Decision making
The second workshop was a one day session about decision making process. We decided to target the company’s middle management group in order to help us understand the key factors that go into making the correct decisions, analyzing the problems and solving them to achieve win-win solutions. The workshop helped us to achieve this goal and also showed us different techniques to use when agreeing on solutions.
The decision to continue Mr.Tagar’s training with the company in the future is based on the reality of human benefit throughout the workplace and economic profit.
Lubomír Starek CEO EE Communications
“For me, feeling that I was running on empty led me to do an introductory … course and then a 10 day … workshop. These helped me begin to re-connect with myself, face my ‘demons’ … and find sources of inspiration and energy beyond hope.”
Martin Large Director of Hawthorn Press
(From letters of appreciation from Michael Hall School, Elmfield School and others)
“Mr Yehuda Tagar introduced Psychophonetics with great success to several of our staff members. He was also of invaluable assistance in the re-envisioning of school and strengthening the integrity of the College of Teachers. Key ideas which Mr. Tagar helped bring to fruition some five years ago, are still in place and working well in our School and Market.”
“Everybody found the workshop ‘rich and useful’, and felt they were given tools they could use in the workplace. The ‘Triangle Exercise’. ‘Door-handle’ and ‘Listening Exercises’ were all much appreciated. The group really enjoyed being together and found the theory of the seven requirements valuable.”
“Mr. Tagar helped facilitate in various conflict situations here. We will be forever in his debt in this regard and cannot recommend him highly enough.”
“Yehuda would be an enormous asset to any organization that seeks to use his professional services; particularly I would recommend him to work in the Waldorf school environment.”
“We all felt that you have much to contribute to us, as we strive to deepen our work with the children and adults we work with.”

Psychophonetics Resources – Books
The first book on Psychophonetics edited by practitioner Robin Steele has been published in June 2011:
The Psychophonetics approach to psychotherapy works with the whole human being in body, soul, and spirit. Founded by Yehuda Tagar and based on Rudolf Steiner’s Anthroposophy and Psychosophy, Psychophonetics is unique in its emphasis on a combination of conversation and action phases in counseling sessions. Through the language of experience and the language of soul, it uses a unique gesture-and-sound (nonverbal) approach in combination with body awareness, movement, and visualization—a method that goes beyond national, language, and cultural differences. Psychophonetics Master Classes
Master Classes
The Master Classes are with genuine clients, who have no previously prepared agendas. Each one consists of a short introduction to Psychophonetics and its potential, the demonstration-live session with the client, followed by questions to the counsellor, Yehuda Tagar.
This is an excellent way for health professionals/therapists/GPs to gain an immediate insight into how effective Psychophonetics can be and to evaluate how this method could be of use to their patients, to complement their own work with them.
Psychophonetics counselling has several significant features:
It is firmly client-centred, serving the spirit of the human “I”
Clients can immediately carry the fruits of the session into their lives
It uses gesture and sound as well as visualisation, to bring insight
Each session stands alone with no long term commitment
It is applicable to every area of personal and professional life
